I think all we can do is try. It's better than just avoiding it all together. [Oh, if only he realized the irony in what he was saying. Normally, that was exactly how Shinji would handle it.] I would feel bad if I let my friends get into too much trouble.

I guess you, like, have a point. And it would be like, totally rotten to just leave your friends to deal with it alone.

Can't imagine how it must feel to have someone you don't even know thinking they're your family or whatever. I've actually had the opposite problem. The last couple days some of my friends like, don't even know who I am! Can you believe it?

O-oh, um... really? That's really strange. [He would feel bad being one of those people, so he pretends to be surprised. Sob.] It must be even worse if people don't recognize you at all...

Strange is like, a total understatement! I don't know what those dumb scientists could possibly get out of some dumb memory shift.

...It is kind of a downer, though. I've been trying so hard to get to know people and then they can't even remember my name. It's like, kind of a bummer.

Getting to know people is pretty hard by itself. [So he could only imagine how he felt right now.] But at least it'll be over eventually. They'll remember your name sooner or later, I'm sure of it.

[Huh. The guy makes a good point. Paschal cracks a smile.]

Yeah, I bet you're right! I mean, a shift can't last forever, huh? And I'm sure your roomies will be right back to normal, soon, too!

Yeah, I'm sure they will. [Normally, he would have doubted that, despite his own words of encouragement. Definitely not now, though.] All we have to do is wait.

[He turns to head down the hallway now.]

I shouldn't keep you, though. I think I'm gonna get going.

[Paschal begins to head off in the other direction, and waves, giving Shinji a friendly grin.]

Okay! I'll, like, see you later, man!
